Safety Policy
At Rivas-JH Kim Taekwondo (RJHK), our top priority is providing a safe, positive, and structured environment for all Taekwondo practitioners.
1. Sparring Equipment & Quality Control
Mandatory for Yellow Belts and Above
Requirement: All students from Yellow belt (8th Geup) and above must own and bring personal sparring equipment.
Applicability: This equipment is mandatory for participation in all sparring (Kyorugi) classes.
Authorised Equipment Only
Approved Equipment Only: Only sparring equipment purchased directly from RJHK is approved for use during training and grading.
Safety & Standardisation: Using a single approved standard ensures all equipment meets consistent safety, quality, and performance requirements, providing a safe and controlled training environment for everyone.
Quality Assurance: Equipment obtained from third-party sellers or online marketplaces may include counterfeit, replica, or substandard products that do not meet our required standards.
Student Protection: Inferior materials and construction may provide inadequate impact absorption, wear out prematurely, and compromise the level of protection needed during sparring.
Commitment to Safety: This policy is implemented to safeguard the well-being of all students and to maintain the integrity and consistency of our training programme.
Precision Fitting
Professional Sizing: All students must be individually sized by our staff before purchasing sparring equipment.
Proper Protection: Correctly fitted equipment ensures adequate coverage of key impact areas and remains secure during training.
Injury Prevention: Ill-fitting equipment may shift during movement, reducing protection and increasing the risk of injury.
Training Safety: Properly fitted gear minimises movement and distractions during sparring, helping to maintain a safe environment for both the wearer and their training partners.
Compliance
Equipment Checks: Instructors may inspect sparring equipment at any time to ensure it meets our approved safety and training standards. Students are required to use authorised, properly fitted sparring equipment during all sparring sessions.
Safety Compliance: Students without approved or properly fitting equipment will not be permitted to participate in sparring classes until the appropriate equipment is obtained.
2. Class Safety Measures
Behavioural Management
Maintaining a Safe Learning Environment: Students who display disruptive or unsafe behaviour may be separated from the class or activity to maintain a safe and effective learning environment. Where appropriate, instructors may implement brief, supervised time-outs to allow students to regain focus before rejoining the class.
Instructor Intervention Measures
Activity Modification: Instructors may adjust or modify training activities where necessary to ensure the safety of all participants.
Partner Reassignment: Instructors will actively swap training partners to manage weight or skill mismatches.
Supervision: Instructors continuously monitor classes and will intervene promptly whenever unsafe behaviour or practices are observed. Instructors may implement appropriate disciplinary measures for behaviour that compromises safety, disrupts the class, or is inconsistent with the school's values.
3. Staff Safety & Mutual Respect
Respectful Conduct
Professional Communication: Students, parents, and staff are expected to communicate respectfully, courteously, and constructively at all times.
Prohibited Conduct: Abusive language, harassment, intimidation, threats, shouting, or any form of aggressive behaviour towards staff, students, or parents will not be tolerated.
Resolution of Concerns: Questions, concerns, or grievances should be raised privately with management through the school's official communication channels to facilitate a fair and respectful resolution.
Right to Refuse Service: RJHK reserves the right to suspend or terminate a student's membership for violations of the school's policies.
